Is the word várias the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
Yes
The only difference between the word in Brazilian and Continental Portuguese is pronunciation. In Brazilian Portuguese, the vowels are typically more open and clearly articulated. In Continental Portuguese, unstressed vowels undergo significant reduction; therefore, the "a" in "várias" is much more closed and often sounds like a neutral, muffled sound (similar to a schwa). The spelling, grammar, and meaning remain identical.
