Is the word tens the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
No
While the spelling and meaning of "tens" (the second-person singular of the verb ter) are identical, the typical usage differs significantly. In Continental Portuguese, "tens" is the standard conjugation used for informal address with the pronoun tu. In Brazilian Portuguese, the standard for informal address is the pronoun você, which requires the third-person singular conjugation, tem. Although "tens" is used naturally in certain Brazilian regions (such as Rio Grande do Sul or parts of the North), it is not the national standard.
