Is the word significativas the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
Yes.
The word is identical in meaning, grammar, and spelling in both Brazilian and Continental Portuguese. The only differences are phonetic:
- Vowel Reduction: In Continental Portuguese, unstressed vowels (such as the "i" in significativas) are much more "closed" or "reduced" than in Brazilian Portuguese. In many Brazilian regions, these vowels are pronounced clearly and openly, whereas in Portugal, they may sound much shorter or almost swallowed.
- Sibilance: Depending on the region in Portugal, the "s" in the plural suffix may be pronounced as a "sh" sound ([ʃ]), whereas in many parts of Brazil, it is pronounced as a standard "s" ([s]).
