Is the word prometer the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?

Yes

The difference between the two variants is strictly phonetic. In Brazilian Portuguese, unstressed vowels are generally more "open" and clearly articulated. In Continental Portuguese, these same unstressed vowels undergo "vowel reduction," meaning they are pronounced more "closed" or are often swallowed almost entirely, giving the dialect a more clipped and rhythmic sound.

Brazilian Portuguese Examples

  2. Ele prometeu que ia trazer o bolo. (He promised he was going to bring the cake.)
  3. Você prometeu me ajudar com a lição. (You promised to help me with the homework.)
  4. Não promete o que você não vai cumprir. (Don't promise what you aren't going to fulfill.)
  5. Eles prometeram que o presente chegaria hoje. (They promised that the gift would arrive today.)
