Is the word presenciais the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
Yes
The word is identical in meaning, spelling, and grammar in both Brazilian and Continental Portuguese. The only difference is in pronunciation:
- Brazilian Portuguese: The vowels are generally more open and clearly articulated. Unstressed vowels tend to retain their distinct sounds, and the cadence is more melodic.
- Continental Portuguese: There is significant vowel reduction. Unstressed vowels (such as the "e" in presenciais) are often much more closed or nearly swallowed. Additionally, the "s" at the end of the word is frequently pronounced as a "sh" sound (shibilance) in many regions of Portugal, such as Lisbon.
