Is the word poderoso the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?

No. While the spelling, grammar, and core definitions are the same, there are differences in typical usage and pronunciation. In Brazilian Portuguese, "poderoso" is frequently used colloquially to mean "impressive," "great," or "awesome." In Continental Portuguese, the word is used more strictly to denote strength, influence, or authority. Furthermore, the pronunciation of unstressed vowels is much more "closed" or reduced in Portugal than in Brazil.
