Is the word nestas the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
Yes
The word "nestas" is a contraction of the preposition em (in, on, or at) and the feminine plural demonstrative pronoun estas (these). There are no differences in meaning, spelling, or grammar between Brazilian and Continental Portuguese. The only difference lies in pronunciation:
- Brazilian Portuguese: The vowels are more open and clearly articulated, making the syllables easy to distinguish.
- Continental Portuguese: The unstressed vowels are "reduced" or closed. The "e" in "nestas" is often pronounced very subtly, almost like a neutral, silent sound.
