Is the word jaqueta the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?

No

The difference lies in typical usage. In Brazil, "jaqueta" is a very common and standard word used to describe various types of light outerwear, such as denim jackets or bomber jackets. In Portugal, while "jaqueta" is understood, it is much less common. A Portuguese person will almost always use the word "casaco" to refer to any type of jacket, coat, or blazer.
