Is the word especializados the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?
Yes
The word especializados is identical in spelling, meaning, grammar, and usage in both Brazilian and Continental Portuguese. The only difference lies in pronunciation:
- Brazilian Portuguese: The vowels are generally more open and the rhythm is more melodic. The unstressed "e" in the first syllable (es-) is clearly articulated.
- Continental Portuguese: The pronunciation is more "closed." Unstressed vowels are often reduced or almost silent (vowel reduction). A Portuguese speaker might pronounce the first syllable so quickly that the "e" is barely audible, making the word sound more clipped.
