In Brazilian Portuguese, vowels are generally more "open" and the letter "d" is often pronounced with a palatalized sound (sounding like "dj") in many regions. In Continental Portuguese, unstressed vowels are much more "closed" or reduced, which makes the word sound shorter or more clipped to the ear.
