Is the word conexão the same in Brazilian and European Portuguese?

No

While the spelling and the literal dictionary meaning of "conexão" are identical in both Brazilian and Continental Portuguese, there is a difference in typical usage and pronunciation.

In Brazil, "conexão" is a versatile, everyday word used for a wide range of contexts, including the internet, transportation (flight connections), and emotional or logical links. In Portugal, however, the word is much more specialized; it is often reserved for technical, scientific, or computing contexts (such as a "database connection"). For most common situations involving internet, telephone, or interpersonal links, a Portuguese person would naturally prefer the word ligação.

Additionally, the pronunciation differs significantly. Brazilian Portuguese features more open, resonant vowels and a melodic, syllable-timed rhythm. Continental Portuguese uses more closed vowels and a stress-timed rhythm, which makes the unstressed syllables sound much shorter or almost disappear.
