The only difference between the two variants is pronunciation. The spelling, grammar, and meaning of the word are identical. In Brazilian Portuguese, the vowels are more open and the rhythm is more melodic. In Continental Portuguese, unstressed vowels are significantly more reduced (often becoming a neutral, almost silent "schwa" sound), and the final "o" is much more closed and short.
