In Brazil, the vowels tend to be more "open" and the rhythm of speech is more syllable-timed (each syllable carries a more distinct weight). In Portugal, vowels in unstressed positions are much more "closed" or reduced, often sounding almost swallowed, and the rhythm is more stress-timed.
